[better-reviews]
After watching already the first two episodes, you can tell this series is not a re-make of the 1982 or the 1985 mini-series of Das Boot. The script is totally new although the Bavarian production company is the same. This new series looks more to be a spy drama than a U-boat war series. I am not impressed.
After watching the whole first season, I can conclude the new Das Boot (2018) series are actually two loosely connected stories that ran in parallel with one another, a naval drama rather than combat, and a spy drama. The naval part is the better one although the script is rather average. The spy drama part doesn’t add anything to the series. A three-parts mini-series with 1.5 hours long episodes, and without the spy drama part, would have been preferred by me.
