World War II drama “Greyhound”, which is being produced by Tom Hanks, has taken a big step back from its planned March 22, 2019 release and is now expected to be released in May 2020.

Greyhound tells the story of navy officer, Ernest Krause, who commands the Greyhound during World War II. The U.S. Destroyer Greyhound, part of an international convoy, was pursued by German U-boats across the Atlantic Ocean along with 36 other Allied ships. For forty eight hours, Krause will play a desperate cat and mouse game against the submarines, combating exhaustion, hunger, and thirst to protect fifty million dollars’ worth of cargo and the lives of three thousand men.

The war drama will be based on the 1955 C. S. Forester novel “The Good Shepherd”. Forester wrote several novels including The African Queen, The Barbary Pirates, The General, The Gun, The Last Nine Days of the Bismarck and Rifleman Dodd. However he is best known as the creator of Horatio Hornblower, a British naval genius of the Napoleonic era.

Elisabeth Shue (“CSI”, “Leaving Las Vegas”), Stephen Graham (“Boardwalk Empire”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”), Tom Brittney (“UnREAL”) and Rob Morgan (“Stranger Things”, “Daredevil”) will be among the cast.

The new release date is set on May 8, 2020 and will be competing with “Legally Blond 3” in theaters. If it was released March of this year, it would have been competing with “Captain Marvel” and “Us”.
