On July 19, a pilot carried out a perfect emergency landing of his replica Spitfire without landing gear. The aircraft was flying above Sibson Airfield when the pilot radioed airfield bosses to say he could not release his landing gear on Saturday morning. While emergency services arrived at the scene, the pilot circles Sibson Airfield for 20 minutes to burn fuel before landing replica plane on its belly as landing gear fails to open. The pilot managed to land the Spitfire on the grass and was unharmed after the incident; – apart from a broken propeller – the plane appeared largely undamaged.
