Rudolf von Ribbentrop, son of Hitler’s foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop, has passed away at the age of 98 on May 20, 2019 in Ratingen, Germany.
Rudolf von Ribbentrop was highly decorated during World War 2 with the Knight’s Cross (“Ritterkreuz”), Germany’s highest military valor award, and the German Cross in Gold (“Deutsches Kreuz in Gold”). He fought with the tank regiments of the 1. SS-Panzer-Division “Leibstandarte-SS Adolf Hitler” in Kursk, Russia and with the 12. SS-Panzer-Division “Hitlerjugend” in Normandy, France. He surrendered to US Forces on May 8, 1945.
He was born on May 11, 1921 and spent a year at the Westminster School, London while his father was Ambassador to the Court of St James in London in 1936.
Rudolf von Ribbentrop is also the author of a biography book about his father: My Father Joachim von Ribbentrop: Hitler’s Foreign Minister, Experiences and Memories and was the last living Knight’s Cross holder of the Waffen-SS after Eberhardt Heder passed away in 2017.
