Nearly 70 years after World War II ended, a local man who parachuted into Normandy on D-Day is receiving overwhelming recognition for his service — and it’s all thanks to the power of social media.

“It’s nice to be remembered,” 94-year-old Waymon Blundell said, “No matter who you are.”

“My generation doesn’t realize the sacrifice these guys had back then, ya know,” Tyler Plum, Blundell’s friend and former neighbor said.

Blundell just turned 94 on January 17, but his wit is sharp as ever.

“It’s a lot of fun jumping, and I did it for $50 a month,” he said.

News 12 asks, “And that was a lot [of money], huh?”

“Heck yeah,” Blundell chirped. “$50 a month, I’d jump again.”
